Apologetics Paper Delivered in the Patristic and Medieval Section of the 74th Annual Meeting of the Evangelical Theology Society
"Something Divine Mingled Among Them": Countercultural Holiness as Apologetic in the Second Century
Evangelical Theological Society is, according to a description I first heard years ago from Nathan Finn, “Comic-Con for Theologians.” It’s the academic guild for evangelical theologians, biblical scholars, and church historians, which means that the annual gatherings entail every bit as much nerdiness as Comic-Con but with a lot less Spandex.
For those who want to present papers at an annual meeting of the Evangelical Theological Society, planning begins in March when proposals must be submitted. A couple of months after you submit your proposal, you receive word regarding whether or not your paper proposal has been approved as something worth presenting. If your paper proposal is approved, you write and present an academic paper before your peers in a section of the society in November.
In my last few Substack posts, I provided readers with a shortened form of the paper I presented this year at the 74th Annual Meeting in Denver. In this post, exclusively for those of you who are supporting subscribers, I wanted to provide the entire paper for your perusal.
Enjoy!
